A true design classic--in the same league as the Beetle, Austin's first Mini was produced in 1959. By the time production finished, 5.3 million had been made. The Mini was brilliantly designed, with great space utilization in the interior as well as under the hood. In 2002, BMW introduced the new Mini, which was styled to look like the original. However, as seen in these pictures it wasn't quite as small as the original.

Along with the Monaco, the late 70s Fury was often used as a police car in the seventies, equipped with a 440 V8. This Fury, however is the luxury "Salon" package, and has a smaller engine, as well as a lot more vinyl and other brougham-y design features. For '77, the Fury gained the stacked square lights, which harkened back to the older Fury's stacked circular lights. You gotta love the textured side trim, complete with fake stitching.

The new fox body Capri arrived in 1979, and unlike the previous generation European Capri, it was obvious the new car was a rebadged Mustang. Styling changes were minimal--the cars boasted a unique front and rear end, and not much else. The RS was the performance package, and eventually received the 5.0 V8, like the Mustang. This is an early RS, before the redesign with the bubble back, and still retains its original stripes and graphics.

This was a top-of-the-line luxury land yacht when it was new--and probably cost someone quite a bit of money in 1976. That's what makes it so fascinating though. It's now just another old hunk of metal, slowly degrading, without much hope of being saved. The 8th generation 98, produced from 1971-'76 was the biggest yet, and was produced at a time when luxury was judged by how many loops the "brougham" badge had. This car has some of the best patina I've ever taken pictures of (click on the "extreme patina" tag to see more), with amazingly faded paint.

The BMW 2000 Sedan arrived in 1966, and used the engines out of the sportier 2000C and CS. Like today, the sedan was praised for its handling and performance, as well as overall luxury. This sedan represents the earlier years of this bodystyle, one that would continue for many years. Although U.S. market cars had quad circular lights, this one has the ultra-modern euro square lights installed.

Though technically a 2nd-gen, the Hilux was redesigned extensively in 1975, which included replacing the Hilux name with simply 'truck'. The SR5 was the sport truck option, and included the graphics and a few other special features. The mid-70s were a hot time for minitrucks, with almost all major manufacturers offering one. This SR5's bright yellow paint and slightly patina-ed graphics look great with the white rims (white wheels really need to make a comeback).
